A key requirement for this project is positioning accuracy. The best way to do this is to use a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver rather than pure GPS. This allows the system to potentially receive navigation fix data from GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (EU), and BeiDou (China)—significantly increasing the number of satellites used for a positioning fix. Given that this device will likely be installed in a discrete location, it may have a challenging view of the sky, so more potential satellites in view is definitely a good thing.
